Kit Parker Biography

Kit Parker was born on February 6, 1948 in Westport, Connecticut, to renowned illustrator, Al Parker, and Evelyn Parker, a noteworthy fine artist in her own right.

At age eight he became captivated with the family?s 8mm projector and small collection of cartoons and comedies that his father had bought to compliment the family home movies. He started collecting and making 8mm and 16mm movies in earnest while in grade school, and has continued ever since.

In high school he worked as a 16mm news cameraman for KSBW-TV in Salinas, California. After graduating from Carmel High School, the television station promoted him to film editor and later to technical director.

During the Vietnam War he served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as both a journalist and program director for the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise?s television and radio stations, WENT.

Upon discharge from active duty in 1971, he founded Kit Parker Films in the Monterey California area, as a 16mm non-theatrical distributor. In the 1980?s KPF had contracted with major studios and independent producers for the theatrical distribution of their classic libraries to theatres.

As an adjunct to distribution, he produced and co-produced several programs for television, cable and home video, for PBS, NBC and The Disney Channel. He developed the concept of marketing videocassettes via direct response television commercials.

For several years he studied the exhibition of Mexican films in the United States. From that came a keen awareness of Mexican culture enabling him to act as a consultant to both Mexican and Hollywood producers alike.

In 2000 Kit Parker phased out the distribution side of his business and commenced a successful second career acquiring and licensing "orphan films."

Kit Parker lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his wife of 25 years, Donna, who is a writer. Together they have a daughter Cheyenne who was born in 1988, and is a student.
